Memories of my Generous Thesis Adviser

When I was ready to write my thesis for CSP, I already knew that I wanted to ask Peggy to be my adviser. It was probably the best decision I ever made on my thesis. Peggy was supportive, attentive, patient, and re-assuring. One time, she insisted keeping a meeting with me, going out in gale-force wind and rain all the way to the coffee shop. And when the time came to defend my thesis, I was proud to notice the toughest questions came from Peggy.

It is perhaps fortunate that Socrates was able to refute Cephalos in the opening book of the Republic. Otherwise I, and many students like me who have experienced Peggy’s enormous generosity, would never escape the grief of knowing we owe a great debt we may never be able to pay.
